Surgery Pre Operative Instructions

PRE OPERATIVE INSTRUCTIONS

  • If you are having IV Sedation you will need to be cleared for surgery by your primary care doctor with a history and physical.  This means you need to call their office and get on their schedule for a pre-op clearance.  It is your responsibility to make sure this pre-op clearance gets to our office by THURSDAY  the week of surgery.  If we do not have it your surgery will be CANCELLED. We will send a letter, when posted, to your primary care doctor informing him of the surgery to be done and date.
  • If you are having IV Sedation-NOTHING TO EAT OR DRINK AFTER MIDNIGHT the day prior to surgery.
  • If you are INSULIN dependant take only 1/2 your dose of long acting insulin the night before.
  • If you are NON INSULIN dependent take only 1/2 your dose of oral medication
  • If you need to take any medications on a regular basis like heart or blood pressure meds, you may take these medications the morning of surgery with a sip of water.
  • If you are having LOCAL anesthesia you may continue your regular diet.
  • Wash your foot/feet thoroughly the night before surgery, remove any nail polish.
  • Wear comfortable clothing, loose fitting, you will not need to change clothes.
  • Please have a family member or friend accompany you the day of surgery to drive you home.
  • If you do not have any stomach problems and can tolerate taking Advil-please begin taking Advil 2 TABLETS THREE TIMES A DAY, BEGIN DAY BEFORE SURGERY AND TAKE FOR 1 WEEK THEREAFTER. We have found that taking an Anti-inflammatory lessens the amount of pain medication patients may need to take.
  • Please inform us as to where your pre-op x-rays are/were taken so we can be sure to have them on site for surgery.
  • We always like to inform our patients of the billing protocol when having surgery.  There will be two bills going to your insurance company one is the surgeons fee and the other is for the facility fee.
  • In addition if you have any special concerns not addressed above please contact Dr. DeLeonibus at any time.
